Bell Glass   -   For Far More Than Just Glass

With its large stock of over 40 picture frames (see “Picture & Mirror Frame” button) together with a comprehensive range of coloured cardboard mounts Bell Glass offer a prompt in house service of producing picture frames to any specific size or design. Frames may incorporate plain float glass, or picture glass with the benefits of low reflection.

Be it a photograph or an art print both mediums greatly benefit from having a bevelled board surround mount, or indeed a double bevelled mount for that true professional appearance. Surround mounts also serve the great purpose of providing the scope of not being constrained to using purely a small frame for a small print, when even small prints can look splendid and create much visual impact when placed in a large frame. Furthermore where prefabricated picture frames are being used (only available in set standard sizes) it’s nigh impossible that the size and proportion of an art print or photograph will match the aperture size of the frame, but with the clever use of bevelled board surround mounts such problems are easily overcome.

What is important is to try to match the frame style and mount colour to the picture image, with a fair guide being that delicate images are best surrounded by delicate colours and delicate picture frames. For certain it is a myth to believe that a large beautiful ornate frame has no place within the interior of a modern home, when nothing could be further from the truth.

All branches of Bell Glass have staff able to assist on such subjects, and telephone or email quotations are readily available if required. Alas mail order is not possible.

In order to be helpful the “Photo Gallery” below includes a few various examples of how bevelled surround mounts can be best put to use. There are no such thing as rules, so what suits you is your choice. Please note the example frames shown greatly differ in size, but have been shown as all the same size for presentation purposes.

Art Prints & Posters (See Photo Gallery below):

Some individuals believe that a stunning piece of art mounted in a beautiful frame has no place within the modern home environment, but perhaps this is why so many homes and offices appear sterile, lifeless and lack visual interest. The truth is that the interior design of most homes (regardless of architectural style) can be significantly enhanced by the hanging of a few pleasant pictures. Of course picture content or appeal is an individual taste, and can range from a light pen & ink drawing to a traditional master artists work, or a bold vibrant splash of colour as created by many modern art prints. Framed prints can be composed to subtly blend in with their surroundings (as to be almost lost), or alternatively can be used to form a positive feature to an otherwise featureless wall or room. Hanging small or medium size pictures in groups is often highly successful, but a solitary large print can be equally as commanding.

Twenty years ago it was possible to visit numerous city shops/galleries in Rochester or Canterbury to acquire a good quality art print suitable for framing, but alas because there are not huge profits to be made in dealing with such items the end result is that the consumer now has almost zero options in terms of where to acquire prints without paying a top premium for the privilege. These days the purchase of a custom made picture frame is equally very difficult, however Bell Glass are set to break this downhill trend in promoting their established in house service of print acquisition and customised frame making.

For those who have the wisdom to accept that good choice, value, and quality can be provided without a posh “art gallery” environment being necessary then Bell Glass certainly has something to offer all those in the County of Kent. It’s important to re-confirm that Bell’s do not send their frame making picture mounting out to a sub-contractor (perhaps working from the back of their garage), and at the Rainham Branch (Bloors Lane) customers can happily exchange comment or ideas first hand with the enthusiastic staff team member who will be producing every element of the end result with their own bare hands. This it is felt is a true personal service that is rare to find in an age where no one appears to know nothing, amidst a poor business attitude of take it or leave it.

Bell Glass have always retained a small stock of art prints & posters (some already framed), but it has no daft intention of portraying itself as a leading art dealer. Alas carrying a large stock is not in anyone’s interests when the constant handling of prints leads to potential damage, and the belief is that the Bell customer deserves nothing other than a pristine print. Against this background the company offer a totally unique customer service of acquisition, where a print can be selected from examples displayed in the Photo Gallery below, or they can specify the type of art (title, artist, or size) required upon which Bell’s will investigate acquisition and confirm an estimated price. What is asked of the potential customer is that they demonstrate a tad of patience in that such a highly personal service cannot be executed and completed at the speed of lightening.

The personal service of specific acquisition is only available via the Rainham (Bloors Lane) branch (starting from April 2006), where telephone or email enquiries are welcome. Please ask for Lee who will bust a gut to be helpful, but do take into account that such services are not available through mail order.

Acquiring a print and a custom picture frame should be as exciting as purchasing a piece of quality furniture or porcelain, so do enjoy the Bell experience.
